ACADEMICS, PROGRAMS, AND OPPORTUNITIES
Academic Advisers
Oxford College provides a blended model of academic advising and support. Before their first semester, each student is assigned a professional academic adviser from Oxford’s Advising Support Center (ASC). In addition, every student is paired with a faculty adviser, who also teaches their Discovery Seminar during the first semester.
Throughout their two years at Oxford, both ASC professional advising staff and faculty advisers work closely with students, supporting their holistic development—not just academically, but also in extracurricular involvement, career exploration, and personal growth. Rather than focusing solely on alignment with students' initial academic interests, advising at Oxford emphasizes broad intellectual exploration and interdisciplinary engagement.
Students meet with their advisers periodically throughout each semester to discuss degree progression, leadership opportunities, personal development, career pathways, and summer experiences such as study abroad, internships, and research. Adviser approval is required for course registration and any enrollment changes after registration.
Faculty advisers, with support from Oxford College’s Advising Support Center, play a key role in helping students transition from high school to college and make informed decisions about their courses, major selection, and career trajectory. While advisers provide guidance, each student is responsible for understanding and fulfilling graduation requirements as outlined in the academic catalog.

Specialized Academic Advising
The Oxford curriculum supports students as they explore their future and career possibilities. Oxford College’s course offerings provide background for a number of professional programs, including allied health professions, dentistry, engineering, law, medicine, pharmacy, theology, and veterinary medicine. Specialized advising is available for some specific pathways that will require you to take a set of pre-requisite courses by a specific time.
